I've only read a couple Mao works, but they seemed fairly radical and OK to me. Where do you think he went wrong?

The genocides, basically.

I mean I get that, but is there any indicator in his works that his ideology was headed that way?

I don't put any stock in theory, just action. Tankies always praise these monsters because they wrote inspirational diatribes about communism.. But if they practiced the polar opposite of communism and used their writing to create personality cults that they used to terrorize millions... who cares about their 'theory'? It's completely worthless if they immedietely discard it in favor of state capitalism, the crushing of civil liberties, staggering ecological destruction and mass murder.

Words are cheap. Writing "I'm very radical" with one hand means nothing when you're using the other hand to strangle every last drop of blood out of your people.

I posted a documentary to f/History about Mao for you. The cultural revolution towards the end, when Mao writes directly to the youth and invites them to lynch their parents and teachers is probably what you're looking for.

Quibbling about how many millions he killed isn't a good look. Especially when your strategy to discredit the research described in the article is to link me to one fawning tankie's opinion.

The bootlicking in your link is so furious my own boots have drool in them from the ricochet.
