Very interesting article, but I think that honestly the author is not looking at the bigger picture. His "alternative solution" to collect plastic at the mouths of rivers rather than ocean cleanup is completely naive, since it does nothing to clean the ocean, and ignores the massive Engineering effort required to conceive of placing those at the mouth of every single river. Also this ignores impacts of sea to river ecosystems, such as migrations.

But regardless, the article is interesting in that I had no idea what a neuston was before, and it's an interesting and complex problem.
