Evolution, in this instance, indicates that birds capable of consuming the larger bugs lived and thrived. That's survival of the fittest. Some people still think evolution means that our DNA makes decisions on what to change physically, programming the next generation in advance. I don't think so. The survivors that fit the changing ecosytem better than their siblings multiplied. That's what I get out of it.
