Wait... They want to murder cats?

Well the cats want to murder wildlife so an utilitarian reasoning would want to get rid of cats in the wild. They probably just want people to castrate their cats and keep them indoors.

Personally, i believe people should just stop having pets because keeping them indoors is torture.

Yeah but what about all the wild / stray cats?

There are Trap-Neuter-Return programs that deal with stray cats. Eventually a feral colony will die out. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. The important thing is to neuter pets and keep them indoors. Giving support to shelters helps as well. The area I moved into a couple years ago has the worst stray cat population I've ever seen and it's honestly killing me. The amount of cats with FIV is staggering and it's a danger to all of the other cats (even indoor ones, if they get out.) I've done what I can to raise awareness but people aren't open to outsiders due to how insular it is. (I've lived in rural areas before but this is on another level.) Of course now that I'm housebound, there's not much I can do anymore. Still haunts my brain so I'm constantly trying to look into solutions. Also regarding the "torture" of indoors @moonlune, some cats can be harness trained and it works fairly well. Other cats simply prefer to be indoors. It really depends on the individual.

they should be caught and neutered (and rescued?) and their population will die off.

That said, cat control should be complemented with loads of other modifications in our way of life if we want to preserve wildlife. Neutering our cats and still using pesticides for example(which starve birds) wouldn't be enough.

birds are doomed.

I wonder how many of these science "experts" have stats on the numbers of wild animals killed by cars every fucking year?

Fuck their "science".

I don't think getting it de-sexed and keeping it from going off into the wild to kill animals works with cars.

That's the point; the establishment attacks the low-hanging fruits (i.e. defenseless animals). It ain't bad to fix some pets... just that there's also a real issue of genociding their species. This applies to cats, especially.

Are domestic cats really at risk?

Their population has significantly dropped in my town since the sterilization programs were implemented. Stray cats used to be all over the place in backstreets, and now I'm surprised to meet one.

It can be a slippery slope... If there ain't at least a minority of cats that remain unsterilized, they could just disappear entirely in some areas over a few decades, even countries. So yes, in that case, this means a genocide.

the fact that many wild animals are killed by cars does not invalidate or in any way alter the fact that domestic cats are major bird predators. there are reasonable ways to alter the cat problem but not the car problem given people's attitude that driving cars is an inalienable right.

slashing tires... setting them on fire... This kinda works, but maybe not on a wide scale. Plus unlike for animal culling, it's far from being supported by hypermanagerial authorities.

First off no one should be neutering another animals organs which is cruel, inhumane and typical of capitalist views. This article is shifting blame from capitalism and humans which are the root cause of the imbalance in our ecosystem.

The destruction of the countless trees by humankind has infact allowed cats to find and kill birds easily. When was the last time you ever saw a tree so tall over 20 stories so densely packed in town? IF we had those trees in town, that would really decrease the amount of birds a cat kills plus other benefits for everyone...just have to think outside the box we were put in.

I know finding a solution is hard, but neutering actually makes things worse if you think about it.
