This type of design has been proven elsewhere to double as an hot air turbine electric generator. Called the "solar updraft tower".

If you install a wider, flatter base that heats up the air underneath, the hot air will be pulled upwards through the central cylinder (that is air-tight), so that large turbines will slowly generate some electricity out of the upward air flow. This of course requires a quite bigger structure, yet it's doable. Can be especially effective in hot/sunny regions.
