Stardew Valley? i've never played it but it looks pretty chill.

or maybe something Transport Fever 2 or Cities: Skylines. you can turn off the "game" elements and just build stuff if you don't want to worry about that.

I am resonably sure I have shared this before but its like one of my favorite online game moments so whatever.

Last time I played minecraft I played on a server that had nations and political entities and I was part of an ancom commune and we pretended to be tankies so we could raid the tankie nations treasure room and run off with their shit.

I should play minecraft again its been a really long time.

Rimworld has the capacity to be chill af, though it can kind-of be whatever you want it to be.

Oxygen Not Included was also pretty chill. Similar to Rimworld but less open-ended.

Dwarf Fortress is about to release their graphical version on Steam in less than 2 weeks. I've been on the edge of my seat for over a year watching the development. Dwarf Fortress is the only game of its kind, and now it's going to have graphics. Plus it's just some regular old dudes making it, not some parasite capitalist. Their reason for making the graphical version cost money is that they need healthcare, and they've tried to make it free as long as possible (text version is still free).

Yeah I think it's releasing in under 2 weeks from now. It looks really nice too. They've been putting in a lot of work. I think they have magic and politics overhauls planned in the near future as well.

Rimworld is great, mostly because of the mods. Most of the mods are extremely small modular pieces of the game. My modlist has over 250 mods, compared to other games that have maybe 10-20 in my modlist.

I've been having a lot of fun with a particular set of mods: Hospitality, Gastronomy, and Prison Labor. There are others, but those are the main ones that enable my current playthrough to work.

Hospitality and Gastronomy have allowed me to open a restaurant and hotel for visitors. Of course all that cash and trade goods lying around attracts bandits, so I dedicated the entire under-mountain part of the map to a prison labor factory for anyone who dares bother my guests.

I also have a nice tribal commune playthrough going, which is the more peaceful / chill one. Those dudes are just farming and minding their own business. They meditate twice a day around an Anima tree, do a little work, play some games, eat some gourmet food, and relax. They do get into some occasional combat, but that's okay because they traded a bunch of goats for a machine gun.

My favorite story from Rimworld is Ed McBoob. Ed's crash pod landed in the far nothern tundra, where temps never rise above 0 degrees F. He was also naked, and had no extra supplies. He never did admit why he was naked in the crash pod to begin with.

Upon landing, he found a cave, ate a few rats or whatever lives up there, and promptly went a little crazy. Fast forward over a week and he's starving, self-harming, and refuses to do anything that might actually save him.

A lone traveler comes through, a trader, someone who could have possibly gotten him to safety, or at least sold him a jacket. Ed bludgeons him with a nearby rock, knocking him unconscious, and drags him to the cave. Ed quickly fashions a prison, throws the other guy inside, and begins contemplating his hunger, further driving him mad.

By the next day, he was as hungry as you can be, hungry enough to eat someone. About the time he snapped, another traveler came through, likely looking for the prisoner. Ed convinced the traveler to come into the cave to do some trading and warm himself by the fire.

Out of nowhere, Ed snaps the trader's neck. He stands over the body for a moment, then drags it into the prison cell and wakes the prisoner up. Ed eats half the body, and leaves the rest there in the prison cell. He comes back the next day, eats a bit more, and hits the prisoner a few times for no good reason.

After consuming the rest of the body, he quickly kills and eats the prisoner, starves, and dies unpoetically. That story just always stuck with me because of the seemingly-purposeful attempt to scar the prisoner by dragging the body into his cell.
