its been a long time since I used something like batocera but I can let you know my opinion/what I do now if you are interested.
:edit: I guess it matters a little what your final vision is. Like is this going to be siting on a computer in your living room or what you are doing with it.

I don't know yet, I saw PS3 and WiiU games running on emulator which I never thought was possible with current hardware. But my Idea is probably set a a desktop PC that can be upgraded (?). Not sure, it's more like a daydream, I am broke lol

i played breath of the wild this way. it was laggy as hell though. this was a few years ago though so maybe things have improved. but the ps3 /wiiu emulation wasnt anything special a lot of games didnt work and most were just fast enough to be playable which is to say rather laggy.
edit: I guess 2 yrs actually and I had a decent cpu the specs required to not lag were ridiculous iirc.

if you set your expectations lower (like older systems) you can probably pull this off with a raspberry pi which are relatively cheap (though not free obvi)
