Reply to Major political parties in france (including far right) are having a "march against antisemitism" but to me it feels like to me a dog-whistle for supporting israel. by moonlune
especiallly as marches in support for palestinians were made illegal.
The major leftist parties have refused to attend because they don't want to associate with the far right so now they're accused of being antisemites.
One leftist hurmorist said that nethanyahu was a nazi without a foreskin and now the right is dogpiling on him and trying to cancel him for being antisemite.
and I'm getting a headache because of all the dogwhistles. It's crazy how they're using the uno reverse accusing their enemies of being antisemite while the french right has roots in nazism and are still led by people convicted for antisemitism and it's working.

France is not turning Jewish french aginst Muslims, it's turning everyone against Muslims.
There's a world : "islamo-gauchiste" (islamo-leftist) that is used by the right and "center" (which is in fact right) to call left wing politicians and people who are the only ones to ask for muslim people to not be discriminated against.
Current far right politician Eric Zemmour is Jewish and hates Muslims (notably more than most other politicians, except maybe for lepen I don't follow french politics much), and many jews that used to always vote left, or at least aginst the far right because they were also victims to it (as it has very obvious ties with Nazis, both historic and up until today), are now voting for this Zemmour guy because he wears a "jewish mask" while spouting hate against Muslims (& all the other usual far right stuff that npcs find attractive) , this hate that many Jewish people in France share (because Zionism, & years of anti-muslim propaganda by the government but also anti-jewish propaganda that Muslim npcs fall prey to online have increased tension between both communities).

I really don't see the issue with students showing religious affiliation in class, like who cares? I could understand it a bit with teachers but students?

Reply to Mort de Nahel à Nanterre: un ambulancier en colère contre des policiers placé en garde à vue by fortmis
translation : "a paramedic angry with the police is placed in custody"
he's basically yelling at a cop (not sure if it's the one who shot Nahel?) saying this was a kid, you shot him for what, cause he didn't have a licence? and that he saw this kid grow up and that they won't have peace because of what they've done. Also I think at one point he's like, just you wait until tonight, see what happens tonight (predicting there will be anger on the streets and damn was he right)

This article / series of articles is great. About halfway through. The addition of creative nonfiction written accounts really gives so much life to it.

Interesting article, a bit dense, can't tell if it's maybe a translation thing or a communism thing haha. A few too many Trotsky quotes for my liking. Their point about the Inter-Union's disregard for basic working class needs, in favour of a strategic "goal-oriented" approach focused solely on the pension reform ... is all so recognizable. Sigh! Why do I find it all so depressing!

I'm under the impression that the French gov has invented this ultimatum that if the country is to support more migrants, then the pension age will have to go up... In order to finance it?

And really if you're a white worker in France and your choice is between a rightist who announced he's raising the retirenent age by 3 years and a far rightist who says she's lowering it by 2 years and cutting tax on petrol, it's not hard to see why they'd choose her. People always vote for their interests. Doesn't matter that like all politicians she's a liar and won't actually deliver on her promises. Voting isn't practical, it's wish fulfillment.

they're both pretty mask off really, but le pen has supposedly 'softened' her rhetoric to get a broader base.
she's still saying she'll ban Muslims from wearing headscarves, change the constitution to curb the liberties of immigrants and foreigners and put an end to immigration from cultures she doesn't like to 'keep france for the french'
but now she poses for selfies with her bengal cats and once with a girl in a hijab, so the media has declared she's reformed even though her polices are all exactly the same
she's gotten broad working class support by promising to solve the cost of living crisis
funny how democracy always leads to a 2 sided fight between the right and the far right

Silver lining: if candidate gets less than 5% of votes, their campaign expenses don't get reimbursed, and right-wing pecresse who only got 4.8% (but expected more) is now personally indebted of 5 million euros LMAO
