Watched The scent of green papaya but I didn't really like it, it starts of nice but the message of the ending is terrible.

This week I watched Peterloo. I've been wanting to watch this for a long time as I come from Manchester so this has extra importance to me. It drags for the first half an hour as Mike Leigh sets up all the history that is needed to understand what the massacre was, why it happened and why it was so important. By the end I really enjoyed it and the scene of the Peterloo massacre itself is quite harrowing. It's a shame so many people don't know about this event.

The Red Turtle was on a TV channel where I live now (not Manchester anymore) this week and whilst an absolutely a beautiful film to look at the ending made me wonder what the message of the film really was. If anyone has their own interpretations I'd be very interested to read them.

Then there was Y Tu Mamá También in which a Spanish woman has a lot of sex with some 13-year old boys. I don't think they're 13 in the film but mentally they are. I hated every character in this film and I was tempted to give up after an hour. However, I really enjoyed everything else that was going on around them and technically it was so well done. I will give Roma a go in the upcoming weeks.

I also watched Ip Man 2, Parasite Eve, and Stir Crazy but I don't have too many thoughts about those.

On my agenda this week is I, Daniel Blake, then maybe Karamazovi, and also Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters. That Yukio Mishima was a crazy fascist but his life story (and grizzly ending) intrigues me.

I watched "Us" at the local indie theatre that somehow got this movie. I thought it was a decent horror movie. Not really transformational even though it seems to have been quite popular.

What it did do though, is it really made me, a late 80's baby black male, feel like a horror movie was made for me. That's the first time I ever experienced that. The music, the cast, the jokes, the subtones...that movie was made me for me. I think it's the first major horror film I've ever seen that made me feel that way.

Saw Shazam! yesterday. Much better than Aquaman, and much MUCH better than Captain Marvel, which I thought was terrible.

Not long now until Endgame comes out!

That is the first occasion when I at any point encountered that. The music, the cast, the jokes, the subtones...that motion picture was made me for me. I believe it's the primary real blood and guts movie I've at any point seen that made me feel that way.

Let's start with animu movies or OVAs (hope it still counts) this week:

i've decided to rewatch Girls und Panzer OVA 7: This Is the Real Anzio Battle. If you haven't watched the series, it's kinda the missing part. It takes place in Episode 7. While in the TV Series we only got to see, that Oorai won the battle, we didn't saw the battle in itself.

The Story, more indepth exploration of Anchovy's character and overall good spacing, makes this even stand alone an good OVA.

For those who don't know what Girls und Panzer is: In a modern Japan, where Highschool are placed on large carrier ships with a whole town to it, World War II era Tanks are used in a sport style warfare competition. This Hobby is mostly done by young Highschool Girls and is considered a traditional martial art. It's also called "Sensha-do"

Main Character is Miho Nishizumi, who is a decendend of a prestigious family of sensha-do practitioners. However due to an past event, she transfers to Ooarai Girls High School to get away from it, since this School didn't offer it anymore. a few days later, the student council revives it and ask Miho to join it.

In conclusion: To understand it fully, since it's just an extended episode, prior knowledge to the series is a warm welcome. Otherwise some aspects of the film is confusing. 8/10 if you have watched the series, but take away 2-3 points if you haven't yet. (i stilll recommend watching the series)

Next up, i've decided to start watching the Taxi movies again. right now, i'm at 2/5. Let's us start with introducing the characters.

We have Daniel, who was a the fastest delivery man for Pizza Joe. On his last day, he set a new speed record and leaves his job to pursue a new career as a taxi driver.

His 1997 Peugeot 406 is equipped with various racing modifications, which are concealed until he want to use it.

After he drove Emilien, a young clumsy police detective, who daniel thought was a computer tech for IBM. He got busted by him for driving over 200km/h (125mph for our murican friends).

Since Emilien was working on a case against the Mercedes Gang, and he offered Daniel a deal to help him.

So now that we got the baseline set, i can tell you that the dynamic of this duo is pretty good. You've got subtile, but not to over the top humor, a good sountrack, and nice racing scenes.

All in all, both movies (1&2) are super good and i can't wait to watch the next one (except 4&5, they swapped the cast out. still for completions sake. Maybe ill handle it like indiana jones.) so ill give both a 9/10.

the rest was just TV or Anime series.
