I have recently become the long-term sub for a Women's Studies course. I will be teaching for a few more weeks, and we are starting with "women in history" with a focus on the U.S., but not limited to. My question for you all is, do you have any suggestions on people to focus on? Suggestions for videos, music, articles, etc. are most welcome. There are several existing power points that I am working from, but the teacher is pretty awesome and is welcoming anything addition I may wish to bring to the class, so I want to incorporate some radical women and ideas.

I actually have a trans student who suggested Johnson's name for a list of historical women figures. I hadn't heard of her before, and was pleased to read about her role in the Stonewall Riot. I'm always learning in this job!

Talk about how the vast majority of inventions made by men were actually made by women. Also, bringing up topics like mansplaining and such to open their ideas to these oppression's early.

Great suggestions! We actually began discussing yesterday the early inventions of women, so this can fit right into this weeks discussion.

Go to ancient history. Show that women led resistance against civilization and colonialism. Aethelflaeda maybe? Other warrior women/ warrior queens?

I will definitely do that! Some of the older stuff is harder to dig up good information on, but that's always why it's so important to do so- students rarely get to hear about prominent and important women from so long ago.

The actual praxis of women's rights activists u.s.american history class makes it out like they asked nicely and men just gave them some rights.
