I don't mean to downplay the crimes against humanity and attacks on democracy done by the US in those cases.

But my admittedly wild guess is that we're doing more damage to Central and South America right now with the War on Drugs. A lot of criminal gangs wouldn't be butchering each other and countless uninvolved innocents over territory and smuggling routes if there was no billion dollar business at stake.

We should be legalizing, regulating, and taxing all illegal drugs and while we're at it all adult prostitution. Then take the money we earn and the money saved skipping prosecutions and prison sentences for non-violent crimes and spend it on medical care, free medically-monitored doses, and when requested free rehab for addicts.
