So recently I've been procrastinating my exam revisions by reading up about stirling engines, and this looks like one of the most promising ones yet: sefton motors and their other website: volodesign stirling engine and their (2014) kickstarter updates

  • it definitely looks DIY-able, they documented their progress quite well, and sell the plans & construction steps

  • can fit on the back of a truck

  • 200W to 1kW energy power output

  • 700$ in materials. You can also buy their engine for 2000$ and it will probably last a lifetime

  • 600F (300C) external heat source needed (so just stick the end in a regular fire)
