Communalism militantly supports reason, modernity, and the values of the Enlightenment, positive liberty, Civilization (i.e. "civitas", or the city and the body politic that inhabits it), as well as the idea of a meaningful History and the possibility of Progress.

Communalism is not a hard and rigid ideology, but a coherent, unfolding body of ideas built upon a core set of principles and institutions. It is a process to be applied organically to local cultural, historical, and ecological contexts.
