Or in other words, Cracked does a scathing takedown of all those so-called heartwarming news stories about people scraping by yet somehow managing to be nice to other people. There is nothing heartwarming about a elderly man with terminal cancer being forced to work as a fucking Uber driver so his daughter won't lose her house. And the article and many other similar ones have pointed out, for all the heartwarming GoFundMe stories about people managing to get their healthcare thanks to donors on the Internet, there are way more that fall short of their goals and leave their recipients with pennies if they're lucky.

This comic is an example of that phenomenon where a friend died because he was $50 short: https://thenib.com/a-gofundme-campaign-is-not-health-insurance?utm_campaign=web-share-links&utm_medium=social&utm_source=link

These are signs of a deeply fucked up system with massive gaping inequalities that are only going to grow until the system collapses entirely or the US has their own version of the French Revolution. The fact that we help each other out, however little we can, does not excuse any of this. To quote Dietrich Bonhoeffer: “We are not to simply bandage the wounds of victims beneath the wheels of injustice, we are to drive a spoke into the wheel itself.”

Good article, and sad, just to think about how steeped in capitalist ideology you have to be to write or read one of these and nod along with it.
