Reading for 2/12 sfbay-anarchists.org

This week, we’ll let a Dead French Guy school us on how to read a thing.

Recently, a fair amount of comments about being “good reader” have come up. What does that mean? Who is a “good reader”? How does one become such? Is it even possible or desireable?

The readings are
-On Reading, pg. 33
-The Death of the Author, pg. 49
-From Work to Text, pg. 56

P.S. If you want to get a gold star, you can read “Sarrasine” as it provides context for Death of the Author, but it is not at all necessary to discuss the themes of the piece. In fact, Barthes himself would tell you not to.
