The court can interview the child about custody if they deem rhe child of "sufficient age" to have a preference.

I wonder how old sufficient age is typically

The fact that divorce and custody hearings are public information (typically) kind of sucks.

yeah I think marriage is a massive method of system control. You get two people to police each other and remain stationary for a very long time ideally forever. Those factors are massively beneficial.

I don't know if thats purposeful. It probably is more Christians in government think marriage is good so they put up roadblocks to divorce.

Again, If I understand this correctly, you can skip this whole thing if you can come to a written agreement.

this really reminds me of anti-abortion advocates who insist on people reading 'abortion education' or w/e before they can have an abortion. conservatives may not be subtle in their shitty opinions but they sure are when it comes to this kind of thing.

So if you decide after the hearing starts to try and come to a mutual agreement on parenting time etc. you give the court veto rights on the whole thing.

I can sort of see the logic in this. But if you are the parent with physical custody you aren't allowed to move to another state without either the other parents consent or the courts. Which sucks because you can never move then. though the court does favor a move in dometic abuse situations.

Thing is though hypothetically my spouse could move to like the farthest north areas of the state and be five hours away from me if they were petty enough and had the resources. so that other state business doesnt really do what it aims to. Though if theh did something like that it could be grounds to sue if you could prove they were trying to fuck with your parenting time.

so yeah it gets hard to move.

I bet the rules about moving with physical custody is due to the massive prevalence of parents just taking the kids in a divorce. Most child kidnapping is of one parent taking the kids and moving away so they don't have to share.

I don't have a source on this so don't take it as gospel. I could be wrong.

Interesting under certain cirrcumstances grandparents can get visitation rights/custody.

Nothing applicable to me but interesting.

God this shits hard to read. legal language is one thing but it just feels so emotionally charged and impersonal all at once. I think thats enough for today.
