Hey all! How can I do better, at everything?

Submitted by Tequila_Wolf in AskRaddle

I was talking with a friend recently who mentioned that talking with me is very theory-heavy, like a philosophy class. Which got me thinking about all the ways and times I've probably been too theoretical and probably obnoxious! Which in turn got me thinking of my faults generally.

So I wanted to ask everyone here: Based on your interactions with me, what do you think I could do to be better for other people and for the goals we have? Feel free to come at this question however you like.

I'm not looking for reassurances here so feel free to skip them. Constructive critique would be ideal! Please don't be concerned about upsetting me; I'd rather know about how I'm perceived than not.

i don't think you should change how you express your thoughts in general, being theory heavy and philosophical is not bad at all, maybe just make it simpler when talking to that specific friend? in the spirit of 'know your audience'

I think you're pretty good at wording your message depending on who you're talking to.

like a philosophy class

I'm guessing you've actually taken philosophy classes so when you talk philosophy with people, it's very dense and hard for people who aren't in the conversation to follow. I tune out because I don't know anything about philosophy or the terms being used. But I'm not part of the philosophy convos anyway, so it's not really an issue imo. It's not like people who don't know anything about academic philosophy can be expected to participate in a convo like that.

If I wanted to critique you I'd say you're very serious all the time, like all business, anarchy 24/7, putting every ounce of your energy into doing anarchy. It's hard to relax around you and just shitpost.

Thanks, this is helpful.

Good to know. Yes I've been told many times that I'm the most serious person. There's no cure I can see for this, except seriously being less serious at times. I'm gonna think about it more though.

I don't see any reason you would want to change who you are. It can be intense but it's still inspiring and beautiful.

You could talk about less serious things at times here, like movies, music and tv shows.

My only critique is more personal to me... Your vernacular is beautiful and it forces me to learn new things. Some days I have to spend more time than I have to lookup words that you use and sometimes google more to understand the overall context.

I would not change anything but there are days I wish I could read posts explained like I am five.,
