Don't tell everyone about it.

not sure if this resource will be helpful to you, but if you live in the bay area and looking for a squat, sf food not bombs (sffnb.org) has a list of vacant buildings and lots.

Sounds precarious. imo squatting is only possible in a group, so that more than one person can be on site at all times.

yeah the squat i found is known to all the street kids and thus not very safe. i could sleep there if i have to but prefer to sleep somewhere safer.

Sadly the safest places are the ones that you pay for :/ Have you priced up local hostels?

if there are "legitimate" occupants nearby, be courteous and if possible invisible to them. don't leave a mess or rubbish to attract pests. a good sleeping bag, when available, is an important investment if you live somewhere cold. you don't want frostbite. plan out how, where and when you're going to piss and shit in advance. again don't make a mess.

public libraries are a good spot for a quiet afternoon nap, squats are often uncomfortable and result in poor quality sleep so it's nice to catch up on some z's when you can.

good luck. hope it goes easily for you.
