Yeah, they're obnoxious. A luxury "green" car. JFC

I wish we had more visible solarpunk type efforts, taking really old RVs and putting panels on them, taking out the gas engines and replacing with batteries. They might only go a hundred miles or so, but then you've given free housing, transportation, and a mobile squatting center to an affinity group. Theoretically, these units could freely roam the vast wildernesses of places like North America, providing a mobile, independent anarchist network even in the event of peak oil immobilizing the rest of the country.

Fareless local light rail projects can also be agitated for on the city level, paid for by fees on luxury cars.

By actually reusing the chassis/bulk of old vehicles, discarding and purchasing only what is necessary to create a functional vehicle, you can make a much less energy intensive and enviromentally destructive social outcome. But capitalist modes of production cannot concieve of this type of planning, everything is fixated at the commodity level so we get planned obsolesence and this absurd waste dressed up as "futuristic" "sci-fi" capitalism that will "save the planet".

i mean, any kind of industrial or productive efforts are going to damage the environment, but if we're going to reduce the impact of our infrastructure on the ecological systems they are enmeshed in...we are going to need hackers, reverse engineers, crispr garage geneticists, and people with similar emergent fields of insurrectionary science. we are going to need people who take the initiative to actually directly change the modes of production, by finding technical paradigm shifts and using them to decentralize forms of socioeconomic planning.

capitalism will only develop "solutions" that make the rich feel better, not resolve the fundamental contradictions of commodity markets. hack the planet, save the biosphere!

tl;dr there are so many better ways to alleviate climate change/environmental catastrophe/mass extinctions than buying a hybrid or a tesla...share your car, diy hack it into a electric/solar powered vehicle, collectively organize for real alternatives to monopassenger car culture, create green anarchist RV squat networks across western canada, etc etc

At an electric vehicle rally, I saw a VW bug, converted to electricity. The bottom of the vehicle was covered with lead-acid batteries. And the electric motor was so big that it looked like a garbage bin!

That sounds like a low cost build. I think we will see more things like this as the Teslas and other EVs start getting scrapped and then reused. The drive trains of EVs with the exception of the batteries will last longer so it might be a little while. It's awesome seeing EVs finally becoming cool. It was smart going luxury to help offset the R&D.

Cars in general piss me off, so by extension Teslas piss me off too.

I see them all the time, I live in a rich part of town and I fucking see 3 a day. The sheer amount of money that the cost infuriates me. minimum 60k. how the fuck do you throw away that much money on a fucking car??? at my best job I made that much in TWO YEARS.

Why? IMO it's better the rich spend their money on an electric car than a polluting, climate-killing, gas-guzzling fossil-fuel car.

Because their production / consumption is the reason we're all fucked in the first place. Them driving around in a luxury electric car to score brownie points while being collectively responsible for this entire mass extinction event is pretty farcical.

The 1% literally are the climate killers.

And those batteries aren't exactly 'green' anyway. They're created by exploiting the shit out of the global south and its population and polluting the shit out of the land. Same goes for any 'green' energy that fills the batteries:

Sounds like you are trying to justify fossil fuel usage. Green energy, solar, EVs, wind, etc are far better option for the planet by all metrics. It does seem the oil company's shills are been effective at suggesting otherwise. Do you suggest some alternative as it is easy to just pick apart with out offering better suggestions.

No, I suggest blowing it all up, fam.

Me too. Tesla(the scientists) would never want this happen...

I've only seen one, and I know for a fact the driver was an asshole, so that's all I can say.

I don't know what they look like, so I can't say I've ever seen one. But I'd rather see those on the road than a bunch of gas-guzzlers, even if they were made by rocket jesus.

They are all over the place near me, but then so are colossal SUVs and pristine, never carried or hauled anything F-250s and Silverado-3500s and such.

I think the important thing about Tesla Motors isn't them and their products, it's that the other automakers were sitting on their asses and ignoring electrical vehicles until Tesla came along. Now Nissan, GM, and BMW sell battery-powered cars and most other automakers are working on them. I'll never own a Tesla, but someday I might own a Nissan Leaf.
