Oh yea-- I couldn't give up my PC, though.

I've gotten so used to using it, I don't even use a computer any more because they feel too cumbersome.

I could, but I don't want to since it's the way I stay connected to my partner.

I'm sure I could, but it would be hard to at first. I use it so often for everything. I communicate with people I don't live near, I check scores for sports I follow, etc. I wouldn't even go on here if I didn't use a phone lol.
Also there is the distinct feeling of missing out because of the phone culture that we live in. That would take a toll on me. And certainly my partner would be upset with me.

yeah, I don't plan on buying another. I might get a old mobile phone if they still make them when the current one breaks.

Yes. I'm actually curious if anyone knows an article or study that summarizes the ecological burden of smartphones.

I don't think most people would give up a smart phone due to its usefulness as a communication device.
Also for other reasons, like, for example, using it as a 2-step authentication device.

I haven't had one for months. My partners want me to get a cheap one for keeping in touch and using kik but I'm a little leery of getting one unless it's an older model.

I usually have a phone that can only call and text. I just have a smartphone right now because it was free. The only thing I find remotely useful about smartphones as opposed to feature phones is maps. There is nothing else "mobile" enough in my life that I can't just access it on a pc.

No, need to be able to contact people, make appointments and so on.
But I use my smartphone for Signal ONLY.

With respect to Signal, I'm not sure it's as trustworthy as the project owners want us to believe: https://drewdevault.com/2018/08/08/Signal.html
I'm looking into the other open source alternatives.

I would love to, but no. A substantial amount of my organisation stuff happens over apps, and there is no realistic way to rearrange things so I wouldn't need it.

I haven't used a cell/mobile phone for years!

Everyone could give up their smartphone, but not everyone would do it. That's a big difference. For the many of us, smartphones is the one technology that is already like an extension of our arms. I would also question why I should give it up before handing it over but for me, I wouldn't willingly give up my smartphone simply because it's how I connect to my family and work.

It's my portable life support. Stealing people's wifi, carjacking, traffic sniffing, card cloning, etc. Flashed with Lineage OS. When I'm not using it, I wrap the phone with tin foil to block all comm.
