The perfect representation of capitalism. A tiny proportion of the population get handed all the riches in the world, while everyone else gets poverty. As long as the lottery exist, liberals can point to it and say "see, anyone can be a winner!"

Very succinct. When you are buying the ticket you are really buying the daydreams you inevitably have of winning and having money to do whatever you want.

It's almost like you're buying a little piece of the giant boot that's crushing you.

It simultaneously disproves the idea that hard work is the only way to make money. People don't want to work for scraps they want their needs met which is why lotteries are so popular.

It's a tax on the poor, you don't see wealthy people buying lotto tickets.

I'll admit to playing my states lotto occasionally, the odds are still bad but better than the multi state lotto's.

Also wasn't it mega millions that was above a billion?

I don't care about it.

I know someone who plays it sometime, and I think she gets enough joy out of just playing and tuning in to watch the numbers come through that the money is worth it for her.

I think that there are lots of reasons why people spend money. If a colleague wanted to go in on a ticket with me I'd probably accept if I liked them, because I want to accept the gesture as a kind of attempt at connection with me.

I'd definitely encourage people not to spend a lot of money on the lotto, though.
