Cow milk. Wtf humans? You're not toddlers still. I'll never understand how the world got duped into thinking stealing a 4 legged creature's milk and mixing it with a bowl of grains every morning was a good idea.

Haha, I don't understand it either. I still consume plenty of dairy, but I do agree that adults sitting down with a glass of milk is rather strange.

Pretty sure it has to do with pastoralism. If the only plants there are is grass (like in the Eurasian steppe) a human can survive if they use grazing animals to convert the energy in grass to meat and milk. Also in deserts too (camels). It's worth noting that a lot of people in Asia don't drink milk or eat cheese, and that's not just because they're lactose intolerant since making cheese removes a lot of the lactose.

Pastoralism is prehistoric. The point I was trying to make is that the initial reason for milk drinking is not so strange as modern memes make it out to be.

Olives. I try them every time thinking one day I will like them, but I just can't stand them! I get so annoyed when somebody orders pizza and it's just covered in olives. They are so overpowering, they ruin any food they are on/in for me.

Dystopia_Drifter wrote

Me too! I try them often to see if my tastes have changed and resent myself for doing so every.. single.. time.

I get the hate for those sliced black olives. I've always had them from a can and they pick up an off-putting aluminum taste.

Tomatoes

Years later, historians would note with self-satisfied smiles that it was a division between tomato-loving and tomato-hating anarchists that was the ultimate downfall of Raddle.

I used to break out in hives from eating tomatoes as a kid and I avoided them like the plague. Now they're my staple food and part of every meal.

Anything animal-based. Once you migrate to veganism the whole concept of eating living beings and their secretions is unthinkable!

Mushrooms. If I even so much as think of the texture I want to vomit.

Mushrooms. It's irrational, but I subconsciously associate mushrooms with rot and mold and decay. I just can't bring myself to enjoy them without that little thought in the back of my head. I can still eat them if I don't think about it, and even enjoy the taste! But if I spend even a second thinking I'll lose my appetite.

Green Beans, I just don't like em! I've tried them every way imaginable and I just can't do it. The taste, the texture, smell. Everything about them is the worst.

Mustard and like 95% of products that originate from mustard family plants. Mustard, cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, rutabega, turnips, ect.

If they all went extinct tomorrow, I would give zero fucks.

Oh and peas, those are pretty nasty too.

Not food, but tap water. Chlorine is a biocide, and there is a lot of worse shit than just chlorine in tap water as well.

nijntje wrote

heh, i'm from the netherlands and there's tap water here that's from the same source as high-quality 'mineral water', but we're super spoiled

2

pavlichenko wrote

I too am super spoiled. I run my tap water through a sediment prefilter, a chlorine/chloramine-removing KDF carbon filter, a reverse osmosis membrane, a deionizer, a remineralizer, and UV light at the last stage. Tastes pretty good. It costs pennies per gallon - significantly less than bottled water. Also costs less than the health problems people get from drinking the water here.

Where are you from?

The United Shitholes of Amerika. Water here isn't as bad as it is in a lot of places like Flint, but it's pretty bad and getting worse all the time. They even tell you what is in the water in required annual tests/reports. Of course it's within EPA guidelines most of the time, but that doesn't mean it's safe.

TheLegendaryBirdMonster wrote (edited )

I'm from france and it's common knowledge here that tapwater is more controlled and healthy than bottled water. idk if it's true because I havent really looked into it, but I think it's one of the things that our government is proud of. We've got monthly tests for every water treatment center thought.

the food my parents eat and taught me to eat disgusts me so,too much sweets. (and cheap processed meats) i was exquisitely trained on twinkies and cap'n crunch. and Still, i disgust myself by consuming sweets and breads mindlessly to illness, neglecting what should be a principled healthy routine. though i eat meat far less frequently than they do and i've abstained from it at times, i still do eat it often. and though it may be certified "humane" i cannot feel justifiable ethical in my practicing the sacred act of eating . and this unfortunately disgusts me when i think about it.
