I don't think you have to install Linux first, but it's a very good idea to, if you want your traffic to truly be anonymous. Since Chrome OS is closed-source, there is no way to inspect the source code, and ensure that it is not spying on everything you do on the computer (something which Google is famous for). You're better off using linux, which is open source, meaning you can inspect the source code, and verify that it isn't spying on you.

I'd be willing to help you with installing linux, if you want.

I use four different browsers depending on what I'm doing.

Tor
One with a built-in vpn
and two others for harmless browsing and video watching, and stuff that I do publicly in my own name. The settings on each are different for different uses.

And sometimes on top of that I use ProtonVPN.

Probably overkill but it happened organically so I'm fine with it.
