Yeah, pretty sure 4chan popularized it more than anything else. And from what I remember it was mostly used by the larger 'anti-SJW' (but not quite alt-right) crowd, MGTOWs, incels, that whole sphere.

It's one of the few terms I put in the automod script for r/antiwork, for auto-removal. In late 2018, early 2019, it removed dozens of comments every day, now we're down to maybe one or two, despite much larger traffic numbers.

Idk. Could be both. Probably more on the anti-capitalist side of things though, but without any systemic or cultural critique or analysis. If that makes sense.

I remember some posts about the "beta-male" nature of being a "wagie", by the same people who would talk about hikikomori, and collecting welfare as alternatives. Besides "NEET pride" there was some overlap with MGTOW stuff, sometimes coupled with financial independence investment strategies. Not quite the entrepreneurs and hustlers that would get enthusiastic about free markets n shit, but also not anti-capitalist.

Not sure if it helps complete the picture, but a quick look at the mod log of the past week; users who throw around 'wagecuck' are active on:

r/wallstreetbets, r/Chadposting, r/PublicFreakout, r/gunpolitics, r/LateStageCapitalism, r/moderatepolitics, r/stupidpol, r/antinatalism, r/collapse, various crypto subreddits

Yeah it's actually really anti capitalist when used on 4chan. It's not really shaming people who are "wagecucks" but emfacising that working for a wage will not result in a good life. To do more than just get by the "wagecuck" should speculate on crypto currency as that is really their only hope at a brighter future.

lol. The complete opposite. Internalized shame still counts. Don't try to defend 4chan posters. It's not really anti-capitalist if they believe in capitalist hierarchy and are striving to be on top using environment destroying cryptocurrencies.

It's not internalize shame tho it's "look how those damn Jews are oppressing us". I just stated objective fact without opinion it's physically impossible for me to have defended them.

Just bc anti capitalist fascism exists that doesn't mean I like it.

anti capitalist fascism exists

inevitably, all political projects in this mode of production will tend toward neoliberalism in practice, unless it has idealist anti-politics ancillary to it, or something destabilizes the entire framework.

In fact, fascism is driven historically by the channeling of alienation, which of course will have anti-capitalist tinges from time to time. But this is just spectacle until it starts to drive anti-politics to the fore of the alienated's minds. This doesn't usually happen when they are winning politically, although it can certainly confuse things and play to their advantage by eroding other's understanding of what fascism is (a political project of manipulating alienated downwardly mobile people back into hegemony, even if it is a chaotic hegemony)

Comes from 4chan, usually used by neets (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) who live on welfare and make fun of people who work their lives till they die. Who instead proclaim they are working to improve themselves or just lounge around, and tell others to do it as well. I personally don't care what they do but the impression I get is don't work for the system and then die.

4chan is blatantly racist, misogynist, etc. and this terminology signals to others, I think this one is mostly harmless, and I like the word it's pretty funny imo.

its an older neet thing so a bit of anti-work with a mix of entrepreneur worship. NEETs are a small, loose subculture with no politics other than not enjoying work and not having a job.
