Does it bother you when a user changes their name? Cycling through random names or even making separate accounts is better SecOps, and yet, I feel like seeing the same usernames over the year or so I've been posting has helped foster something akin to ... community? (a dirty word with some raddle users)

At the very least, building familiarity with posters is fun in that I get to build personas off of screen names and respond accordingly. Like making friends, without the friendship part.

I've changed just once bc the first one was meant to be temporary, a pandemic hobby, but this time I stayed..

Its more sad when they delete the account and all their comments. u/lettuce_leafer I am talking about you

There's also users who have renamed their accounts and use the old username to break posting continuity

i can find it confusing if they don’t mention the change however they should do what they feel is best

i find it difficult to follow and therefore difficult to carry over any kind of rapport with that name

but it’s also none of my business and i don’t really give a shit

;_;

Should I change it back to Hash? Vulgar_Soda was my first name, and I noticed other people jumping around so I did too and now I regret everything * cries *

I know it's just a string of random characters on a screen, but names matter. Names literally mold reality by influencing how others perceive and subsequently treat individuals. ... I'll stop stressing and figure something out. Thx ^-^

I find it confusing. My username was meant to be temporary but I don't like changing usernames so it stays.

what if you added to your username? You could be 86944_Tacos. Not quite the same, not quite the drastic change you would despise. Compromise with yourself.

I am not able to tell who people are when they change their user names. I've literally had people on here make new user accounts and then be annoyed with me for not being able to tell they weren't a new user. To me, it looks like the site gets influxes of new users and people I've interacted with in the past just disappear. So, I guess if your OpSec is to be viewed as not the same person, it's working on me. I might be the only one it works on so....yeah, I don't know if it helps you.

People who make new accounts for opsec are probably vulnerable to linguistics analysis anyways. Like good ol' ted K.

It bothers me more when their post history is deleted, tbh.

At least with the post history, it's easier to adapt; it's not like in the meatspace where I'd also associate a face with a name. It'd be a lot harder to adjust if my brother changed his name, for example.

Granted, I'm biased since I've already done it twice.

I think we should ban name changes!
