Ship big. Canal small. How big ship get sideways in small canal? Why make such small canal for such big ships? Why not make canal bigger if ships getting through so important? Why they do that?

For me it is why the heck are we making such big ships in the first place. There is more than one of these chokepoints in the world. Canals and ports and straights that are so absolutely critical and high stakes, because the system is brittle and unsuited to adaptation or flexibility in any way.

That too - not just why not bigger canal but also why not smaller ships? They could even use the ones that go neeeyyyyyooooom and get stuff to market that much faster and cooler
