Is it a good idea to auto-load RSS feeds as posts? Some thoughts that might completely miss the point of your post:

I think what raddle needs (as in: what makes this place interesting to me) is people interacting and participating because they want to, in a more 'egoist' sense. I enjoy reading about what's on the minds of individuals that are drawn to raddle.

Sometimes I get the feeling that half the posts (and even some comments) are made to generate a content-stream, to keep raddle from going stale and inactive. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that; don't get me wrong, I do it too. An endless, unpersonal stream of links just isn't what I'm here for really - I can get that elsewhere, and I'm sure most of us are a little overwhelmed with the amount of information we're expected to digest to stay "in the loop". Quality over quantity, and all that.

Of course, I don't have to subscribe to RSS-fed forums, it would be fairly easy to ignore them.

I post a range of stuff I consider important for various reasons, and often can't tell what people here will engage and take forward. So basically it seems useful to cast a wide net. So at least in my case, it's not about inactivity.

But there are a handful of sites that pretty consistently get posted around here. CrimethInc and Ill Will Editions are two examples offhand.

I'd also like to see more of groups like Unicorn Riot and what they're engaging, for example, but can't always keep up with posting everything. Often it's useful just to read headlines of media to get a sense of what people are working with.

That's a good point, didn't think of that. (hadn't thought of that? English is hard sometimes.)

yea, I've gotta agree with you there. the best bits on raddle aren't the links (even though a lot of them are interesting), it's when people are chatting. RSS feeds might drown that out a bit.

and yea, information overload sucks. the steady trickle of info on raddle's front-page goes at a comfortable pace right now imo.

as long as they don't flood the front page, i'm good.

It's a blog mainly about the social/policy side of tech, as well as other social issues that aren't really about tech but that often overlap with it. A lot of their most commonly discussed topics are potentially interesting to anarchists, including digital surveillance & censorship, the failings of IP law, and criticism of police practices (even in cases where the latter two have nothing to do with tech; here's a random recent example).

I'm not exactly sure how to pin down the politics of the site runner Mike Masnick; I think he might be one of the only people for whom a label like "radical centrist" or "centre libertarian" makes sense? He sometimes seems to have a bit too much faith in markets, but consistently opposes bullshit from both the government and private companies. One of the other writers, Tim Cushing, focuses heavily on criticizing the police, and wrote a pretty explicitly pro-rioting-and-property-damage article early during the George Floyd protests.

EDIT: But I do agree with others that adding RSS feeds would drown out more interesting content. The best posts on Raddle are consistently the text posts that generate a lot of discussion.

I think automating it removes the human element and just makes it another feed reader at that point.

I get there aren't many people posting things, but that's something that will come with time, no?
