Why is it your business what I choose to put in my body?

You might not like the question, but it's an honest question.

NOISEBOB wrote

It's a silly question.

Animals shouldn't be treated as a product to be chopped up and sold.

Simple as that.

Veganism is a protest against that. Sure, I hate it when veganism is promoted as a hip new trend that the bourgeoisie profits from, but that doesn't change the fact that animal bodies are being oppressed and abused.

exvegan OP wrote

What about all the animals that are killed when crop harvesters cut them up?

End factory farming.

(and then agriculture)

Good way to watch billions starve to death.

ziq wrote (edited )

Billions will starve to death DUE to agriculture as the fertile lands of the world have increasingly been rendered sterile by over-production. We quite literally only have a few years left before the land can no longer sustain human life.

Land was never meant to be exploited by settled populations for decades like this, which is why humans migrated constantly.

In all cultures where people built civilization, the civilizations soon collapsed in a catastrophic manner due to the exhaustion of the land, creating untold suffering. Modern humans are not immune to the wheels of history. The higher our population, the higher the death count will be when the system inevitably fails.

This is indeed an issue, yet also an issue for crops fed to animals.

If you want to consume less crops, a good start is to stop eating meat.

Only 6% of soy is consumed by humanimals.

Also, what do YOU eat?

I used to be vegan until I became aware at how racist and classist it is to shame people for their consumer habits. Now I don't discriminate and eat whatever I'm offered.

this is what you're doing right now.

Let me offer you some of my faeces to eat then.

exvegan OP wrote

Is there really a culture that eats human fecal matter? I don't think so.

−7

ziq wrote

Yes. There are some fruits that are eaten twice. First for the fruit, and then the seeds are collected from the stool and grinded into flour so they can be eaten again.

In ancient china, bird nest was considered a delicacy.

You could have tried to not shame people for not being vegan.

Do you at least acknowledge how vegans in the leftist movement alienate prospective comrades who aren't down with Western diet fads?

−3

ziq wrote

I've never known a meat-eating anarchist to care what vegan anarchists think of them. If they cared about that kind of thing, they wouldn't consume the lives of others for their sustenance.

What's the alternative? Eating vegetables and grains that have been farmed by exploited min-wage migrant labourers and even slaves in third world countries? How is that better than eating a chicken?

Source your own food, and if you can't then get the fuck out of the city and find a habitat that can actually sustain human life without you being dependant on destructive external powers for all the necessities of life.

The reliance on imported resources for basic survival always results in the tempering of authoritarian systems that increasingly suffocate the people living under them, before the systems inevitably exhaust themselves and implode - leaving millions of dependants to starve.

City culture requires the constant importation of food and is what allows states/capital to build their power. Your dependence on state and capital can be traced with a straight line right back to the development of agriculture, which enslaved nomadic humans and other animals to work the rapidly depleted land so the new land "owners" could develop their wealth, power and control.

I thought this site was for leftists, not ecofascists.

Who says that this oppression is better than that oppression?

One option is gardening, another is gardening co-ops, another is theft... non-oppressed sources of food taste best.

6

exvegan OP wrote

If you steal food it was still produced using exploitation, so that doesn't solve anything.

Gardening still requires manure which is created in meat farms.

Co-ops same deal. All oppress.

−4

NOISEBOB wrote

I can make manure from my own piss and shit.

8

exvegan OP wrote

Piss and shit you created by eating food you bought in a supermarket, no doubt.

It's not a fad....

There is not a single person on the planet who cannot eat plants.

I know acknowledge that the movement has flaws. Can't see how veganism alienates, tho.

6

exvegan OP wrote

You're assuming that plant protein sources are always available to everyone. You need to combine various plants to create complete proteins. But irregardless, people have been eating animals forever and who are you to tell them their age old customs are backwards?

−5

NOISEBOB wrote (edited )

I'm not shaming anyone but privileged westerners who eat meat without questioning where it comes from....
