this is actually the opposite of the case for me, personal interaction is much more helpful once it starts happening, but its difficult to initiate

Well it depends what you want to do. Enjoy dumpster diving or canvassing restaurant owners/churchgoers? Try looking for a local or regional food not bombs. If you're more directly confrontational, you can look for places protests pop off in your region and start getting involved with local antifascist or even just left wing street march type orgs. If you like growing food, look for radical gardening and farming groups in your area. If you are passionate about anti prison work or writing letters to prisoners, check out Anarchist Black Cross. If you are interested in books or reading or teaching, cant go wrong with finding a local infoshop or free school. If you like or play music, you can reach out to an infoshop to set up a concert. If you are really interested in harm reduction or mutual aid, help your local needle exchange or start one yourself, help gather sleeping/camping gear or other stuff for housingless people (ask them what they need, work together with them, make some friends)

Really, this just scratches the surface. There are so many needs in your community, and thus opportunities for you to do praxis. And the way you will best meet other like minded people, is by taking initiative to start something or joining up with a preexisting endeavor. It's best to focus on something you will find interesting, which you have skills in, or otherwise feel strongly about. Consistency is key. If you are doing something important, and publicize it well, you will inevitably run into others you can socialize with. Direct action is appealing to others.

Remember to focus on the project. If you are genuinely committed to the work, people will come to respect, value, and given the right circumstances develop a deep affinity with you-- because you have done the same with them, as part of a team which is laying the groundwork for a future you wish to share. That's a far better basis for a relationship than pretty much anything normies have, btw
