I consider myself a cat person, since I "have" 5 cats. But I'm looking forward for adopting a dog that gets along with "my" cats.

I tried bringing home a stray puppy once, but she died to an infection shortly after, so I had a really deep emotional trauma for bringing random stray puppies to my place. I think, bringing an adult-ish dog is more safe, but I think, it decreases chances of it getting along with "my" cats.

Right now I have 2 dogs sleeping at my feet, a cat on my lap, a cat on the back of my chair and a cat on the windowsill.

Don't you mind describing your friends?

A white and black turkish van we found in a plant pot outside the airport when she was 2 weeks old and almost dead. A white poodle, a brown terrier, a grey mountain cat I heard crying in a bramble thicket under some pine trees when her mother abandoned her and a black and white turkish van birthed by the other turkish van.

Great, thanks! My oldest cat is Moritz (named after Moritz Bleibtreu) is a BIG red cat of unknown origin (I bet his mother sinned with a maine coon). My second cat is Koza (like “doe” or “nanny”, a female goat) is a tinny red stray cat my partner have found on a street. Then, there is Barcelona and Marcel (too pretentious and "bourgeois" names, for my taste, my sister named them, but it sticked) a daughter and a son of Koza (Marcel is a red chonker, and Barcelona is gray-ish and almost as tiny as her mother). Likely, Koza was already pregnant, when we took her, but I sometimes like to imagine their are Moritz's children. And the last, but not least - Fisher (I don't really know why we ended up with this name) an absolute unit of a cat, of, I guess, siamese descent. Fisher came to us on a street and followed to our place.

Phew, I really love a bit of chat about pets.

I like some cats. Some cats give me existential confusion. Like, wtf cats.

Dogs just love so much it's hard to be around them because one day they will die.

In sum, I am nonbinary wrt the dog cat question.

Most dogs of any significant size are fucking disrespectful, aggressive people who will violate your space, ignore requests to stop, and demand your attention. Some require force to be restrained so they don't do this, which is also disturbing to me. I have trauma from police dogs being used to intimidate & even sexually assault me during "searches".

Cats carry parasites which affect cognition and emotional health in humans, their feces get them everywhere, and a lot of them IME seem to enjoy rubbing their assholes on people and objects. I also don't like their clawing of people after they insist on sitting on you, but I guess they're less annoying to me than dogs.

Frankly I hate domestication and wish humans hadn't created these dependent pet relationships. But i don't voice this IRL because the owners would be offended lol

No; I happen to be a human-person.

However, I live with two dogs who I love. They can both be grumpy at night, but they are still both kind overall.

Recently, a cat died who lived with someone I know, whom I fed whenever they were away. They were generally friendly, but I have a cat allergy, so I never stayed around any for too long.

The previous cat in that house was never to be seen.

As with any person— human, cat, or otherwise— it depends on various factors.

I am more into cats. I find dogs to be somewhat high demand. Dogs are often moving all around and require walks and like time spent with them which is a lot to ask from me who exists as a person who doesn't want any pets. I don't have a huge thought about disliking either animal. I could live with either. I am not on my way to getting pets. I will just proceed solo for as long as possible, like it is an inexplicable obsession. lol Cats do that thing where when you're working on things, they interrupt you. I'm not a fan of that. I can't stand just having my work be messed around with. I have a vast change about my thoughts about a cat when that happens. Few things spark a big change like that one. lol A lot of pets are livable with as far as living set ups, there are more things beyond cats and dogs in the world.

I used to prefer dogs when I was a kid; I also disliked cats for no real reason. The 2nd cat that my mom ever introduced me to was so goddamn quirky that loved him and we still speak of him fondly. He ran away; good for him in hindsight. A few years after, we adopted a stray that followed another family's cat to their home; she pretty much became "my" cat (eurgh) when it became evident that she prefered me to anyone else. A few years later, she got pregnant when she snuck out; we kept one of the kittens; he grew up; and they both ran away when my mom left the door open. I miss them terribly. Now I prefer cats, but can't really think of a way to live near one because I've developed a distaste for domestication.

I like the friendship of both dogs and cats, and have lived with one or the other most of my life, as well as giving my free time to shelters. The only thing I will say is that I can get rather sneezy with cats, but I'm willing to take a pill if they will be about.
