Tbh, seems a lot more like the past than the future. As nation-states become more brazenly aligned with corporate interests, the necessity to use a "national" army deteriorates as a moral imperitive for "national" military actions abroad.

This is not at all different from mercenaries via the catholic church or monarchies or early transnational corporations.
