FMA is the harry potter of anime as in its just as generic and bland and is recommended just as much.

FMA was like a halfway point between a generic shonen like Naruto, and a more violent show like Hellsing.

So I'd say it's like a gateway between a young teen show and something more "mature".

In saying that I never finished FMA, so I could be wrong.

In the same way, Harry Potter is a series that matures with characters, so a gateway to more "mature" reading.

Thats pretty accurate and i agree. Tho to give credit to the show it does explore some mature themes like ethnic cleansing, bodily autonomy, science as a kind of religion to be blindly worshipped etc.
