Hey,

Raddit has been on my radar for a while. Someone suggested it needs some more anti-civ people, and someone else suggested I plug the anti-civ forum here. So I'm here, and I'm plugging the anti-civ forum.

anti-civ.org Is a forum for discussing anything related to anti-civ. What's wrong with civ? What is the cause of our ailments? &c. People who aren't explicitly anti-civ, but are interested in this line of questioning, are very welcome to join. People who are critical of the anti-civ line of questioning, or who are even anti-anti-civ (anti-civ is the real civ, dontcha know!), are very much welcome too, so long as they're there in good faith, and genuinely interested in a chat.

If you want an introduction to anti-civ thought, I would recommend Fredy Perlman's excellent book "Against His-Story, Against Leviathan!"

If you have some questions about anti-civ, or the forum, feel free to ask me here; although if you sign up and ask on the forum, you'll have a more diverse pool of people answering you, so I would of course encourage you to join up.

There's also an IRC channel on irc.freenode.net, called #anticiv.

P.S. I didn't know which forum to choose, as none seemed very obvious, so I just picked Anarchism, because it seems to be the most popular one. Sorry if this is bad etiquette, and feel free to move it to a more appropriate forum. Let me however make it clear that anti-civ.org is not an anarchist website.

i kinda wish you guys would just come over here. I'm postciv. I made the r/postciv sub on reddit before I founded raddit.

I, and other posters — there was a minor discussion on the site about this — don't like the Reddit/Raddit forum style and mechanics for the types of discussions we would like to have. Furthermore, this website seems to be a very dominantly anarcho-leftist website (based on the news, existing subforums, and almost every single person who have told me to check out the website describing it as a site for "leftists fed up with reddit admins"), whereas a lot (most?) of the forum members aren't anarchists or leftists.

I appreciate the sentiment though.

I think it's a pretty even split between ancoms and individualists/post-leftists here.

I sincerely do not care enough to spend my time hunting it down, sorry. Some discussion was privately via email, but there was some on the forum too. But I summed it up okay, so you're not missing out on anything by not reading it.

I'm anticiv, but it sounds like that's a primitivist site rather than an anarcho-primitivist site, so no thanks.

I don't know a single "authoritarian primitivist" (which is what I assume you are referring to) on that site. As far as I recall, the only mention of authoritarian primitivism was when people made fun of Ted Kaczynski's latest maoist tendencies.

There are a few anarcho-primitivists (including a rather prominent anprim writer), but it's not an anarcho-primitivist website.

A lot of people get a knee jerk reaction to anything even vaguely anticiv and assume opposing civilization means you oppose life (or more honestly, losing their technology crutches). Frustrating, I know.

I'd rather post here, your forum doesn't even have SSL.

There are quite a few anti/post civs here though. It doesn't make sense for everyone to be spread out across multiple sites if we're trying to build a movement. We have an opportunity here on raddit to make green issues as important as worker issues - the f/green subforum is the 6th most used forum and incredibly critical of civilisation and industrialism: we're actually able to influence people by not labeling the sub as specifically 'anticiv' or 'anarcho-primitivist', which immediately turns off most people that like their modern luxuries. But we still promote the same ideas.

I know it doesn't have SSL. Several of us have complained about it. It's fine though. It's a forum. Just use a throwaway password.

We're definitely not trying to "build a movement," "influence people," or any other leftist kind of thing. And as I've said elsewhere, quite a lot of us don't like Reddit/Raddit for discussions, so I'm not gonna defend the choice any more. But I can certainly understand how some people don't want to join the site. That's fine. But I have accounts both places, and lo and behold, I haven't gone up in flame just yet.

If you're happy here, then that's good, I'm certainly not going to force you anywhere. I'll check out the green subforum every now and again, and I appreciate that there are outlets for those kinds of things on Raddit, so thanks for contributing to that.
