Against Lifestylism

Submitted by TheWorldTreeWithers in Anarchism

The huge issues i see with it, is its principally a "middle class" anarchism, that this concept of freedom is within an imperial capitalist nation and only possible in such a situation, and applies "an individual moral" code to such a nation thereby implicity accepting international exploitation. I mean, while dumpster diving and drinking 40s on rooftops may be fun, the idea that it is somehow a more "moral" life is ludicrous since its based on the public wealth created through exploitation of the global south.

Although they don't realize it its the same fallacy as praising Nordic countries for social democracy, the only reason they can sustain high levels of wealth and comparatively low levels of societal violence and equality is because every single person who lives in those countries benefits from international exploitation whether they like it or not, or are aware or not.

When you are born into nobility your principle fight against personal discomfort is against boredom --- lifestylists turn this into a "revolutionary struggle".

Yes but these people getting into lifestylism for kicks and taking anti-capitalist stances doesn't ultimately do anything for global libertarian revolution.

Nor does old Murray's snooty mysogynistic dismissals of feminist anarchists like Emma Goldman.

Alright - could you talk about the issues with the thing you're calling social anarchism also?

I'd much prefer if you got it from the horse's mouth so to say:

I read about half of this and it didn't seem to be answering my question at all, so I'm a bit confused.

At the same time, I'm glad that there's some discussion happening in one of the forums instead of the usual posting external stuff and maybe one or two comments with it!

Good job there.

Communalists have the bad habit of telling you to read more Bookchin whenever they can't answer a simple question that Bookchin's theory is unable or unwilling to address.

How does anything in there discredit social anarchism? All Bookchin wanted was to own the rights to his ideology so he could make people pay for it (through his expensive social ecology courses). So he changed a few things to make it more hierarichal and thus profitable. He's a fraud.

You armchair socialist communalist snobs need to get a life. What's wrong with living anarchically everyday and actually helping people instead of waiting around for a revolution that'll never come?

And when are Western communalists ever proles? They're always upper middle class in my experience, while a lot of individualist anarchists live in squats and steal to survive.
