People are also more likely to change their views if they believe it is a view that is held by the majority or their peers. That's the principle of consensus. Do they like and respect the person who is persuading them? Do they find that person credible? Do they fear a loss by not having it? Are there things about you that you relate on outside of the argument? Do you listen to and agree on their positions otherwise?

These are all influential things to consider in persuasion. Persuasion is a science. A lot of things that people are persuaded by don't have a lot to do with logic or reason because you can persuade especially by the masses depending on how the argument is framed.
