That shit still happens, even in whatever global north bubble this person lives in; technology and liberal philosophy have not granted us some magical "social evolution"; people got the consolation prize of "rights" because they fought the majority population for them; it's got fuck all to with "the expanse of security". Only someone completely bereft of worldliness believes that the modern age has "advanced humanity" to a level worthy of discussion.
