Same applies to the other user claiming plants aren't sentient. How do they know? "Sentience" is as arbitrary a distinction as "intelligence". Fuck the Kantian, but they do have a point there.

Many plants rely upon being eaten or destroyed as part of their lifecycle, and will just wither and die if it doesn't occur.

I don't think a being with consciousness would mind being eaten if it's a required part of growth or reproduction.
