It seems that Ivan was caught because:

  • acting alone, without trusted friends to help with such a large task and minimize the risk to any single person getting caught in the preparation steps for the attack

  • being under digital surveillance, due to social media broadcasting of ideology/intent to act, and general internet carelessness

  • not having a plan for how to get away from authorities

  • having no specific plan for the purpose of the attack, and not even a plan for how the attack will help achieve that goal (bridge explosion consolidates state power and the security apparatus, it would not cause the Duma to resign. maybe it might cause the police charged with preventing these incidents, to be embarassed and resign. but that too only helps state power via re-legitimization?)

It appears that these are the main take-away from this incident, in my humble opinion. It is important for anarchist to analyze and improve our praxis with each attempt and attack against the hegemonic, even by people with which might disagree on some or all matters.

How can we donate to help Ivan? Is there a group in russia, which accept XMR to support political prisoner? I feel bad for them, and a kinship through space and time...once upon a time, it could have been me, perhaps.

Very little information about this case. No group declared support to Ivan yet. For now we only have murky info provided by FSB. The info in the article is literally all we know and all of it comes from authorities. Accounting to the region, the case might be fully fabricated. The provided info might be deliberately misleading.

I think, support groups are waiting for more details from independent sources, but, again, accounting to the region and the fact that Ivan was "acting" supposedly completely alone - we might never know independent reports.

social media broadcasting of ideology/intent to act, and general internet carelessness

So many lives was ruined by this mistake, but still, here we are

You are right

On a related note, are you aware of any organizations which help anarchist prisoner in Russia and the area around it? It would be a pleasure for me to help them accept cryptocurrencies.

Anarchist Black Cross Moscow

Anarchist Black Cross Belarus

Vladimir Akimenkov - respectable ex-prisoner that regularly raise moneys (facebook link) for detained and imprisoned anarchists and other political prisoners

Rupression - main site for support prisoners of the "Network" case

Kanskdelo - main site for support detainees in the "Kansk teens" case

In other cases we only have bank's requisites of relatives of prisoners, that are posted from time-to-time on different telegram channels.
