Last year, when the RCMP (canadian federal police, "gendarmes") began their raid on smaller barricades and camps, some of the Wet'suwet'en chiefs close to the Unistoten camp asked people on the ground to open the gate over the bridge to Unistoten to avoid further violence (and for other reasons). This gate had been their most visible and symbolic line throughout the struggle, and there has been quite a bit of discussion among people in solidarity since about how to engage with that choice.
