They definitely made the right choice by not calling the police. This is why I tell people they need to get a gun and learn how to use it - we can't depend on the police to protect us; we have to protect ourselves.

My thought here is that i wouldn't tell just anybody that they need to get a gun and learn how to use it. Racists with gun knowledge for example seems undesirable.

And while I don't think we should rely on the police to protect us, I imagine there are lots of other ways than keeping guns handy that this might be done.

Also the viability of gun keeping will be different in different parts of the world.

Well, of course. I was referring to comrades and workers when I said "people," since they are the ones in danger of police brutality. It would be nice to have a group of armed community members to call whenever you're in trouble, but that takes a lot of time and persuasion to set up. Short of having one of those groups, having your own gun will mean you can defend yourself when you're in trouble, without necessarily condemning the other person to death by calling the police on them. #3, of course - people in areas without access to guns know my advice doesn't apply there.
