(Shameless egotistical stuff.) I can manage in the mid teens for real pushups. For each repetition at bottom I lift my hands off the ground to be certain I'm not cheating on the range of motion. If I put a 2 inch thick box on the ground and touch my chest to that between repetitions, I can manage near 30. If I put a 4 inch thick box on the ground I can go into the 40s.

I figure full range of motion is most beneficial for muscle growth, but I don't really know for sure. Unfortunately full range causes me problems with my right shoulder.

I wonder how rigorous they were with their test protocol?
