  • Library Genesis (list of mirrors) - This is the biggest online library I know of. It has fiction books, magazine articles, comic books, and even scientific articles.

  • Sci-Hub (onion mirror) - This one only has scientific articles. If you can't find the article you want on Library Genesis, try here.

  • Imperial Library of Trantor - This one is accessible only via Tor. It has lots of normal books, and some textbooks as well. The search feature of this website is terrible, so it might take a little while to find what you're looking for.

  • B-OK - Similar to Trantor, but not limited to only epubs.

  • Project Gutenberg - The first one on the list that isn't illegal. This library has only old books whose copyright has expired.

  • Marxists.org - Huge collection of books written by communists and anarchists.

  • The Anarchist Library - Lots of books written by anarchists.

  • aaaaarg.fail - Invite-only library with anti-capitalist books. PM /u/tnstaec if you need an invitation.

  • Planet eBook - A small library with classic books.

  • LibriVox - A library of audiobooks, for books that are in the public domain.

If you know of another online library, please post it in the comments, and I'll add it to this list.

Here's my personal public library-- http://jadedmeta.xyz:8080
It's my Calibre content server, and has about 30 books on different topics-- everything from classic books to leftist texts to technology to conlangs.
I keep it up 24/7.
Sharing is caring! :)

I double-taked when I saw this. It's so similar to my own personal library. Random mix of lisp, hacking books (including the Art of Memory Forensics), and other stuff.

Thanks! This is a good collection. I downloaded Practical Common Lisp and The Art of Deception. Also, Calibre can do that?! It's better than I thought.

Thanks. :)
I'm glad Lisp is becoming trendy, jajaja.
And you can start the server on Calibre by clicking "Connect/Share -> Start Content Server"-- it runs on port 8080.
Calibre's pretty rad.

This is a site that links to different incarnations of libgen: https://sites.google.com/site/themetalibrary/library-genesis

There is also aaaaarg.fail - you need an invite to get into the community but it's free, and focused on radical anti-authoritarian anti-capitalist concerns.

And then there's theanarchistlibrary.org

[note to admins - I could not make links for aaaaarg.org or theanarchistlibrary.org - they would get a 500 Internal Server Error]

I added the list of libgen mirrors, and the anarchist library. I don't think I want to add invite-only libraries, unless somebody on here has an account and is willing to invite others.

It's been a couple of years since I logged it. Let's see if I can remember my username.

EDIT: OK, I'm in. If anyone wants an invite to aaaaarg they can PM me an email address that they're comfortable with using.

There are also loads of IRC channels dedicated to books, as far as I know.

I'm not sure, if it's legal to share and the books are free, but I couldn't resist sharing a whatsapp post here.

This is collection of 100s of PDF books and, or Granths on Hinduism, Ancient Scriptures and biographies collected over years and being made available for free, as per the original poster.

Maybe we should a library of our own here on raddit.

sudo OP wrote

Maybe. But it seems like there are a bunch out there already that have all the books we'd want to read.

We could at least add Anarchy Works and some other reading for beginners to the wiki.

b-ok.org is a good stable-seeming mirror of all the stuff you'll find on libgen-like and bookzz-like sites.

/u/Tequila_Wolf mentioned IRC channels, but it might be worth giving quick instructions, or linking to something explaining it; the #bookz channel on undernet is what's most well-known. Connect to one of the servers, join #bookz, and use @search <whatever you're looking for> to find it (sometimes that's broken and @find has to be used instead). You'll get a text file sent to you with search results, copy paste a line (starting with !SomeBotName) and you should be queued up for downloading. They've got a ton of books, well worth looking into.

Oh and I forgot, someone recently made http://whereisscihub.now.sh/ which links to domains where scihub currently is

There's azinelibrary.org - a reboot of zinelibrary.info

It's also maybe worth mentioning that aaaaarg.fail has a strong critical theory (ie academic) focus.

Doesn't libcom also have a pretty good library? Though probably most of it is also on theanarchistlibrary.
