I think it's pretty disgusting that people are forced to beg on social media to afford basic necessities. Nothing against people doing it, they have no choice. I also have nothing against linking to good causes when a social media post goes viral.

It's a shame our lives are so mediated by social media that this phenomenon has developed as much as it has. It would be great if there was more sharing in person. Where I live that's still definitely more the norm, but I see a lot of this stuff based in Northern countries online.

they're performing a social good in front of everyone else, so they're gaining some sort of social capital. the people who don't donate don't. In terms of the people asking for donations, they're forced to perform publicly and ask for pity in a very public way.

Charity culture in general is one of the hardest things for me. Putting your hand out to the rich because the rich have taken everything. It disgusts me and crushes my spirit.
