When talking about socialism, how should we respond to those that say, what about Venezuela?

What u/dust said, people using it in an argument aren't actually arguing against the ideas of socialism and are using the argument without any sort of context besides as a smear.

But how I view Venezuela, the major industries are majority private owned. The publically owned sectors still lack representation for those workers that are involved. And of course economics plays a factor in their struggles, when oil prices drop then your oil profits will as well, no matter who benefits from the profits.

Bottom line, we support the people of Venezuela but not necessarily the government. Better and more forms of collectivization would serve the country well, certainly much better than a US coup

Most people who say that aren't looking to be informed. It's a misinformed "gottcha" like "the nazis were socialist" Argument ad Venezuelum
