I'm astonished this project is still going. I have to wonder if by 2025 or something everyone that wants Windows 7 will just use this instead.

By 2025 they might be close to parity with Windows NT if they're lucky

I think they have mid-2000s software working right now, so I have at least some hope for it.

Big waste of time. Who cares that much about preserving Windows?

If only Linux would develop a decent alternative to X we could finally rid ourselves of Windows forever.

I still feel shiddy the Wayland trolls killed Mir.

Mir is still ongoing, just without Canonical support. Also Mir development lagged behind Wayland pretty fast.

The same could be said about Unixen, and there's at least Linux, GNU, BSD and the Hurd aiming to clone it. (If you get the time, you should read the Unix Hater's Handbook, because it'll tell you why these are historical artefacts that just push FOSS computing backwards.)

Many people need Windows software for work, which is bullshit, but that's how it is.

People with families in urban areas, usually.

Personally I don't care enough about my job to devote my life to developing a foss... ms windows.

Oh, yeah, I don't either. I'm just happy to see it being a thing for those who could use it. I'm 100% libre here.

I put arch linux on my work computer years ago. No one is the wiser.

Those articles are interesting, but I can't find any follow up information indicating that Russia is supplying money, contributors, or other resources to the project.
