Switching our economic system to communism will still destroy the planet because it doesn't address the big problem we're faced with - rampant industrialism and development which leads to the rainforest being burned to make way for industry and cattle, indigenous communities being destroyed to make way for agriculture, pollution, desertification, global warming and cooling, etc, etc.

Communism would spread the wealth among workers (human beings) better. But how does that help the rest of life on the planet? Not to mention the next gen of humans who won't have a planet left to live on when we're done with it. If anything, communism would encourage more industrialism because we'll all be profiting from industry and there's no chance of going bankrupt.

A lot of us like to imagine that as soon as we get communism, all our problems will be solved. Without money, we won't need to pollute and exploit, but that's naive.

Communism and syndicalism are forms of industrial communism. When the people are given the keys to the factories, we're not going to suddenly decide to sacrifice everything we had under capitalism and make do with only sustainable goods. Even most modern leftists refuse to give up something as cruel and pointless as meat, what makes us think we'll give up tiny cellphones and toilet paper?

A form of artisanal socialism (like that practiced by early individualist anarchists) would be more effective at avoiding exploitation than industrial communism, but the sad fact of the matter is humanity has been exploiting the planet for so long now that it would take a massive global catastrophe to force us to stop.

If you can demonstrate a way to mass-synthesize the nutrients, proteins and vitamins that are, at present, only obtainable through at least an omnivorous diet or expensive (both in capital and procedure) supplements, go ahead. Until then you're not going to have an easy time converting people to a diet that consistently causes neurological damage and anemia.

I haven't eaten meat all my life and I don't take any supplements. Everything we need is easily obtainable from plants, and plants are fucking cheap. But keep buying into meat industry propaganda why not?

Name a nutrient you think you can't get from plants and I'll set you straight. The only exception is B12, which comes from fecal matter. So either eat plants that have been shat on by insects and birds (as would be normal in nature) or eat fermented foods once in a while (B12 is stored in your body for a long ass time).

Now, how do you get your vitamin C, vitamin E, fiber, folate, magnesium, calcium and iodine?

Maybe if you have the time to farm them or something yourself. Eating all veg is more expensive in terms of capital and time.

For those of us living in the now with families to support a non-vegan diet is easier to maintain, since a lot of meats contain multiple instances of the necessary nutrients versus shopping for specific plants to maintain a spreadsheet quota.

But keep buying into meat industry propaganda why not?

Okay, please cite overt meat industry propaganda and contrary scientific study on the necessity of B12.

Name a nutrient you think you can't get from plants and I'll set you straight.

You've also got DHA which can only be synthesized from algae, if not obtained from fish, which contributes to neurological development of infants.

Yeah, I'll take the fermentation, thanks. It is slightly inaccurate; bacteria are responsible for B12 production.

Now, how do you get your vitamin C, vitamin E, fiber, folate, magnesium, calcium and iodine?

Implying meat eaters are strictly carnivorous and are never, ever able to maintain a healthy diet. Also implying that the general lifestyles of vegans and non-vegans are completely homogenous to the point that other aspects of life have no influence whatsoever.

Honestly I'm not that against it but it's not an easy adjustment, especially if you have to get other people on board. You have not eaten meat ever, so of course to you it may seem simple.

Using the Soviet Union as an example of ‘communism’.

Holy hell is this one of your first leftist communities?

Why do you get so bloody angry whenever someone cares about something other than class? Communism isn't the be all end all solution to Earth's injustices. It's just an economic system. The rest of the problems we face need to be tackled one by one. The Soviet Union is proof that implementing a form of socialism doesn't fix everything.

The hilarious thing is you think somehow postleftists are the ignorant ones. No, mate, we all used to be diehard commies at one point too but we realised it wasn't enough.

Stop acting like an elitist, especially when you haven't actually refuted any argument and are just saying people that have said stuff are wrong because you say so.

The USSR was a failure. They didn't even manage to abolish money and corruption was rife. Not to mention secret police and gulags for queers and anarchists. Associating ourselves with a failed state is a bad idea.

It only failed because it was sabotaged by the US.

It failed because it embraced hierarchy with open arms, leading to personality cults, concentration of power, thought crimes, enslavement and corruption.
