One interesting thing about this is, in a rare reversal of how you might expect things to usually work, the water is being cut off in the suburbs and not the townships. And the townships often work on a bucket system for water already. So there's this weird case where the people who are poorest are hypothetically (we'll see) less likely to take a big hit from this.

But of course they're not cutting off water to the CBD because business must continue as usual!

Oh yeah, can't get in the way of almighty Profit. That would be straight up blasphemy.

There's a good chance it's going to be fucking chaos over there, actually. Until they sort things out they're going to be closing schools and other spaces (it's a health hazard because of the toilet situation). Restaurants and shops and everything else in the suburbs are going to have no water. People are going to be getting water based on their registering at an address, so homeless people are fucked. Old and disabled people are going to have a hard time getting water every day from the pick up points. People reliant on washing machines, dishwashers, and water heaters to save time in shitty capitalism are now not getting those things working since their water comes in a bucket and not from a pipe.

They're already planning on having police and military guarding the water dispensing points. This probably reflects the bright future of cape town.
