Oh so they're finally allowing you to move the damn dock? Oh man, what a treat. Just ignore the fact other user-facing distros and DMs let you instantiate and populate your own docks and don't push you to use the giant ugly Metro-esque menu.

Okay, so maybe I still have resentment from when Shuttleworth tried to call himself the Steve Jobs of Linux by insisting his team knows better what the user wants than the user. I just think it's ridiculous that in a single release with the unveiling of Unity and Gnome 3 they trimmed back a lot of configuration options and control panel utilities.

The Ambience theme needs a modern touch before being consistent with GNOME, but this release is a good step forward from Canonical. Ubuntu MATE 17.10 is very good too, and beautiful. But I'm more comfortable with the default themes of these DEs, so they don't look inconsistent. Visual weirdness really bothers me.

At my school our Linux related classes started with downloading Ubuntu in a VM. They have been using it for a number of years too.

In college, I had to use Ubuntu 10.04 in a VM with less than 500MB alloted to it in an ancient system that was upgraded to windows 8. As of this year, it's still true. I once tried running puppy on one and even that ran slow.
